The Orari River Track is a stunning 4x4 private farm track that runs along the west side of the Orari River, providing a perfect opportunity to see a little of the high country. The track is 20km through native bush and traditionally farmed MacKenzie country back blocks. It is an ideal way to cut out a huge section of the 79 Highway and experience the beautiful South Canterbury hill country. The track winds along the Orari River between the two tallest mountains in the Four Peaks Range, Tripp's Peak and Mount Peel.

This track is only suitable for 4x4, off road vehicles, mountain bikes, trampers, horses, motorbikes or quad bikes. Anyone on the track must be very competent and experienced driving farm tracks. The track can be extremely dangerous at different times of the year, there are often rock slips, wheel ruts, blind corners, swamps, loose shingle, very steep parts, slippery clay and very uneven surfaces.

Track is open from 6am to 6pm daily.
Ticket holders can enter at any time between 6am - 6pm

The track is 20 km from the Orari Gorge Boundary. It takes around 1.5 hours to drive. There are plenty of spots to stop and take pictures. Please allow yourself plenty of time.
